why daLuzional?

Yes, it’s a quirky play on my last name. It originated in grad school when a fellow student responded to another of my big ideas, “da Luz, you’re delusional!”  It stuck.

The definition of delusional is suffering from or characterized by delusions. Delusion is a belief that has no evidence in fact — a complete illusion. (Maybe he was on to something.)

For the record, I’m a big fan of facts. (The definition of fact: a thing that is known or proved to be true.) I like facts.  I find them necessary as a human operating on planet Earth in 2025. But as a creator, I am drawn to stories of time and space that have no evidence in fact … yet.  You may not understand them intellectually, but you feel them intensely. You can experience them. And herein, I believe, lies our most significant opportunity for healing and growth.

None of this is revelatory. Storytelling is an art form. (The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.) Art can make us feel.

daLuzional media is a space I’ve created for narratives tailored to unique mediums that alter traditional modes of storytelling. Audiences are encouraged to experience the story, in these worlds of illusion and then… feel.

According to the APA Dictionary of Psychology, a feeling is "a self-contained phenomenal experience". The definition of Phenomenal is highly extraordinary, exceptional, or remarkable, often used to describe something beyond what is ordinary or usual.  Similar to a delusion, I think.

Hoping I brought that home? But if I didn’t, don’t worry. You don’t need to understand it. Just be open to experiencing it. That’s when all the magic happens.

Thank you for being here. I truly appreciate your attention. I hope you enjoy experiencing daLuzional media.
